HC Deb 07 May 1970 vol 801 c179W
Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the President of the Board of Trade what plans are being made for the construction of a fully available airfield to replace the use of the tidal sand area in the Isle of Barra; and if he will make a statement on the future of the Island's air service.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts:

A possible site for a new aerodrome has been surveyed. I understand that, if it were developed under the scheme for military assistance to civil communities, its construction by the Royal Engineers would take about nine months. The work could not, begin before 1971. I understand that Inverness County Council is in principle in favour of such a project. I am not aware of any proposals for a change in the existing air service.
