HC Deb 07 May 1970 vol 801 cc179-80W
Mr, Malcolm MacMillan

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will list by name those organisations of seafarers and other bodies which have indicated their support for the penal provisions in the Merchant Shipping Bill.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts:

The National Maritime Board, which includes representatives of the British Shipping Federation, the National Union of Seamen, the Mercantile Marine Service Association, the Merchant Navy & Airline Officers' Association, the Amalgamated Union of Engineering and Foundry Workers, the Radio and Electronic Officers' Union and the Amalgamated Society of Boilermakers, Shipwrights, Blacksmiths and Structural Workers, has, apart from the National Union of Seamen, supported these provisions. In addition, the Mercantile Marine Service Association and the Merchant Navy and Airline Officers' Association have made strong separate representations to me urging the necessity for these clauses.
