Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what are the number and value of house improvement grants approved by local authorities since the passing of the Housing (Scotland) Act 1969 to the nearest convenient date; how this compares with the similar period of each of the previous three years; and if he will give separate figures for improvement grants and for grants for provision of standard amenities.

The Act was passed on 25th July and came into operation on 25th August, 1969. Information is available only for calendar quarters. Figures for the fourth quarters of 1969 and of the three previous years were:
