HC Deb 23 March 1970 vol 798 c285W
Sir B. Rhys Williams

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the recommended number of beds for each children's ward of children's unit in National Health Service hospitals; and how many children's units have less than the recommended number.

Dr. John Dunwoody

The Department's Hospital Building Note on the design of a children's ward unit for a district general hospital suggests 20 to 25 beds per ward unit as a suitable number unless the unit is confined to a very young age group or devoted to some particularly heavy paediatric nursing, when the appropriate figure might well be 10 to 15 cots. Information about the size of ward units in children's units is not available centrally.
