§ Miss Quennellasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will circulate in the OFFICIAL REPORT a table showing year by year from 1967 the net immigration and natural increase 286W assumed in order to arrive at the Government estimate of a United Kingdom coloured population of 2½ million by 1985.
§ Mr. CrossmanEstimates of the future size of the population of New Commonwealth origin resident in Great Britain are under continuous review, so that any new evidence on such matters as migration and fertility can be incorporated in them.
The most recent work on projections is still indicating a figure of the order of 2½ million persons at 1986. Evidence since 1967 is suggesting a somewhat higher average annual number of births than was then estimated but a lower net inflow than had been previously assumed.
