HC Deb 23 March 1970 vol 798 c282W
Sir B. Rhys Williams

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many children and adolescents are being nursed in adult wards in National Health Service hospitals other than psychiatric wards of hospitals.

Dr. John Dunwoody

An inquiry in March 1969 showed that 1,695 children under 12 were being nursed in such wards, a reduction of 48 per cent. since the previous inquiry in March 1965. The latest information available about adolescents is that of March 1965 when there were 2,885 patients aged 12–16 being nursed in such wards.
