HC Deb 18 March 1970 vol 798 c138W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the estimated weekly increase in council house rents on the basis of a reduction of current housing subsidies by 20 per cent., 40 per cent., 60 per cent. and 75 per cent., respectively.

Mr. Ross

Subsidies in 1968–69 averaged about 31s. per week for each local authority house (11s. 10d. from Government subsidy and 19s. 2d. from rates). Reduction by the percentages suggested would therefore have required increases of rent income equivalent respectively to 6s. 2d., 12s. 5d., 18s. 7d. and 23s. 3d. per house per week.
