Mr. Godman Irvine

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will state for the latest convenient date the number of heavily in pig sows sent for slaughter and that for six and 12 months previously.

The provisional figure for slaughterings of sows and boars in the United Kingdom is 29,000 in February, 1970 compared with 27,000 in August, 1969 and 32,000 in February, 1969. There are no separate slaughter figures of sows alone nor of sows in various stages of pregnancy.
