HC Deb 12 March 1970 vol 797 c358W
43. Mr. Kenneth Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether a Mr. Cutts was given permission to make a broadcast on the British Broadcasting Corporation's morning news over the radio while on parole from Parkhurst Prison recently; whether he is permitted to keep any fee paid to him; and what is his policy in this regard as applied to any other prisoners.

Mr. Callaghan

There was no question of my authorising a broadcast by this prisoner. He was not in breach of the conditions which apply to temporary release under Rule 6 of the Prison Rules, 1964, but I would much prefer that a prisoner should not be approached by newspapers and the broadcasting authorities to give interviews whilst he is on short-term release to assist his transition from prison life.
