Mr. James Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will now state the figures for recorded injuries sustained in the use of fireworks before and during Guy Fawkes Day, 1969.

The table below analyses the information obtained from hospitals in England and Wales relating to the 1,636 persons who received hospital treatment for injuries caused by fireworks during the period 13th October to 9th November, 1969. Figures are also given for the comparable four-week periods in 1968, 1967, 1966 and 1965, when the total numbers of persons involved were 2,537, 2,214, 2,302 and 2,339 respectively.
