§ 48. Sir J. Langford-Holtasked the Secretary of State for Defence why he has permitted three aircraft tyres to the value of £300, the property of his Department, to remain unattended and uncollected on the public platform of Wolverhampton Station since before 12th February; and on what date these goods were returned by British Railways to his custody.
§ Mr. HattersleySafe custody during transit is the responsibility of the carrier. Although I am unable positively to identify a consignment answering to the hon. Member's description, any such tyres belonging to the Ministry of Defence would be en route to or from a local factory for remoulding. Their value would be very much less than £100 each. No aircraft tyres consigned through Wolverhampton Station and belonging to the Ministry of Defence have been reported lost or missing.
