Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many persons and how many persons per thousand population were found guilty of offences against the person in Cornwall, and in England and Wales, in 1964 and the latest year for which figures are available;

(2) how many persons and how many persons per thousand population were found guilty of offences in Cornwall, and in England and Wales, in 1964 and the latest year for which figures are available;

(3) what was the average annual increase in the number of persons found guilty of offences against the person in Cornwall, and in England and Wales, between 1959 and 1964 and between 1964 and the latest year for which figures are available.

Information is not available in precisely the form required, or separately for Newquay. In the Petty Sessional Division of Pydar, which comprises Newquay and St. Columb, 9 persons were committed for trial, and 68 persons convicted summarily, of indictable offences in 1964: the corresponding figures for 1968 were 9 and 188.
