HC Deb 03 March 1970 vol 797 c90W
Mr. Arnold Shaw

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many additional indictable offences were registered in the Metropolitan Police area in 1969 as a result of the passing of the Theft Act, 1968.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

The main effect of the Theft Act in this context was that the unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle became an indictable offence. Of the increase in the provisional figure for indictable offences known to the Metropolitan Police in 1969 compared with 1968, over one half related to this offence.
