§ Mr. Brian Parkynasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will seek powers to compel local education authorities to ensure that all children attending secondary schools of 300 or more children should have music as an optional subject.
§ Miss BaconNo. Almost all secondary schools provide a basic music course and a steadily increasing number provide further optional courses. The Department encourages such developments, as is shown by the recently published pamphlet "Music in the Schools" and the 1967 Report on Education "Music and the Young".
