Mr. Bishop

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if in view of the concern due to the delay in implementing the transfer of the care of the mentally handicapped from the National Health Service to the education service, he will now introduce the necessary legislation.

Mr. Edward Short

Legislation to transfer educational responsibility for mentally handicapped children from health authorities to education authorities will be submitted to this House very shortly.
