HC Deb 23 July 1970 vol 804 c204W
Mr. Chichester-Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many retirement pensioners have received financial help from the Supplementary Benefits Commission in respect of installation or rental fees for their telephones.

Mr. Dean

In a recent 12 month period the number of cases where provision was first made by the Supplementary Benefits Commission (in Great Britain) for the installation or rental (or both) of a telephone was about 60. Not all of the people helped were retirement pensioners. There are also an unknown number of people who are continuing to receive help with telephone costs which had been first authorised in earlier years.
