HC Deb 22 July 1970 vol 804 cc136-7W
83. Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many certificated teachers in Scotland, at the latest convenient date for which figures are available, have been dismissed or refused employment as a result of their refusal to register with the General Teaching Council.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

Up to 31st March, 1970 the number of teachers who had been dismissed was 24. As regards the second part of the Question, it is for the education authority to decide whether to engage unregistered persons for teaching posts for which they are eligible.
