HC Deb 17 July 1970 vol 803 c280W
Mr. Hicks

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his policy regarding the maintenance of general practitioner hospitals where there exists a local demand for them; and if he will give an assurance that the Saltash, Liskeard and Fowey Hospitals will remain open.

Sir K. Joseph

I will keep under review the rôle of general practitioner hospitals and look carefully at any proposals by boards to close them or to change their use. No proposals have been made to me by the South-Western Regional Hospital Board to close or change the use of general practitioner hospitals at Saltash, Liskeard and Fowey except in the case of Trebarras Maternity Home, Liskeard, where the arrangements for maternity services are being reviewed as the result of the temporary closure of the home, through difficulty in recruiting staff.
