HC Deb 26 January 1970 vol 794 c279W
Mr. Scott-Hopkins

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many V.C.10 and Hercules aircraft of Royal Air Force Transport Command have been grounded, for how long, and for what reason.

Mr. John Morris

Individual V.C.10 and Hercules aircraft of the Royal Air Force are withdrawn from service from time to time, like any other military or civil aircraft, for routine maintenance and modification. Neither type has been "grounded", though over the next six months some ten Hercules aircraft at a time are being temporarily withdrawn from squadrons to undergo repairs made necessary by fuel tank corrosion. This does not apply to the V.C. 10.
