HC Deb 22 January 1970 vol 794 cc167-8W
35. Mr. Henig

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity if she will make a statement on the unemployment position in Lancaster.

Mr. Dell

The current rate of unemployment in the Lancaster travel-to-work area—4.0 per cent., provisional—is appreciably higher than that for the region or Great Britain as a whole, but there is a significant seasonal element in this. There is a possibility of some further redundancies in the area, but the decision to start building work on the Heysham Power Station this summer should have a marked effect on the employment situation.
