§ 35. Mrs. Renée Short
asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Pro- 374W ductivity if she is satisfied with the present rate of recruitment to the Factory Inspectorate; and when she now intends to take steps to improve safety precautions in places of work.
§ Mr. Harold Walker
As to the first part of the Questiton, I am generally satisfied with the rate of recruitment of specialist inspectors, and there has been an encouraging improvement in recruitment of general factory inspectors in the last year.
As to the second part the Employed Persons (Health and Safety) Bill, 1970, was published on 18th February.
§ 39. Mr. Raphael Tuck
asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity when she now expects to introduce legislation to provide for greater safety in factories and similar buildings.
§ Mrs. Castle
As my hon. Friend will know, the Employed Persons (Health and Safety) Bill was published on 18th February. I hope to make a further statement about the Government's plans for comprehensive safety, health and welfare legislation in the very near future.
