§ Mrs. CastleSince 1st September last, about 70 letters have been addressed to me on the subject of equal pay.

Mr. Hugh Jenkinsasked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity in which year she expects women's average weekly earnings to achieve parity with those of men having regard to the fact that they are now about 50 per cent.; and if she will indicate the percentage which she estimates will be achieved in each year until parity.
§ Mr. Harold WalkerUnder the Equal Pay Bill, women will achieve parity with men in rates of pay not later than 29th December, 1975. This will not, in itself, raise women's average earnings to the level of men's average earnings. This is because women work on average fewer hours than men and because they are employed in a different range of occupations from men.
