HC Deb 24 February 1970 vol 796 c319W
Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Wales when he intends building a second bridge over the Towy at Carmarthen.

Mr. George Thomas

I added a Carmarthen Southern By-pass, including a new crossing of the River Towy, to the trunk road preparation pool in October, 1968. I hope to publish draft Orders for the scheme in the spring of 1971 and to begin work as soon as the statutory processes have been completed and land acquired. I am also discussing with the local authorities interim arrangements which can be introduced to improve traffic flows at the river crossing before this year's tourist season starts. Work on Section "C" of the Carmarthen Diversion is due to start next month.
