HC Deb 24 February 1970 vol 796 c298W
Mr. Carol Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received from the South Lewisham Young Socialists regarding the proposed closure of Downham fire station; and what reply he has made.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

The Secretary and a member of the South Lewisham Young Socialists have written to my right hon. Friend objecting to a proposal by the Greater London Council to close Down-ham fire station and asking him to receive a deputation. They have been told that a fire authority may not close a fire station without my right hon. Friend's approval; that no proposal for the closure of Downham fire station has yet been submitted; and that he can therefor make no comment at this stage.
