HC Deb 20 February 1970 vol 796 c208W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity whether she will make a statement concerning the industrial dispute at the Ford Motor Company.

Mr. Harold Walker

Some 4,500 employees at Swansea and Halewood are on strike over the current pay negotiations. The T.G.W.U. has accepted the company's pay offer and is recommending a resumption of work but the A.E.F. has deferred a decision pending consideration by a delegate conference today. The company has warned that continuance of the strike may lead to considerable lay-offs by the end of the week. I am, of course, keeping in touch with developments.
