HC Deb 16 February 1970 vol 796 c54W
Mr. Lane

asked the Minister of Transport what steps are being taken by his Department to secure international agreement to protect the environment by limiting the size and weight of commercial vehicles.

Mr. Bob Brown

Limitation of the size and weight of goods vehicles is already practised in most countries for many reasons including protection of the environment. Wide variations in conditions make international agreement on common limits difficult and the 1968 International Convention on Road Traffic recognised the right of contracting parties to impose their own limits.
