HC Deb 10 February 1970 vol 795 c332W
Mr. Marks

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he expects the psychiatric units for adolescents at Parkside Hospital, Macclesfield, and Prestwick Hospital, to come into operation; and what further developments of this kind are proposed in the area of the Manchester Regional Hospital Board.

Dr. John Dunwoody

The unit at Parkside Hospital, Macclesfield, is expected to open this spring and the unit at Prestwick Hospital late in 1971 or early in 1972 when the building is completed.

Mr. Marks

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what provision is made for informing the public and family doctors of hospital, local authority and voluntary psychiatric services in the Manchester region.

Mr. Crossman

There is no uniform pattern but in general hospitals transmit information to general practitioners through executive councils and local medical committees. Both hospital and local health authorities inform patients or their relatives of their supportive services and also of those provided by voluntary psychiatric organisations where it is considered that this would be to the patient's benefit. Local health authorities also publish handbooks about their services, and keep the public informed on general aspects of mental health.
