HC Deb 10 February 1970 vol 795 c320W
Mr. Younger

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the total loan debt of local authorities in Scotland at the latest convenient date, the amount of such debt owed to the Public Works Loan Board, and the main sources of the remainder of the loans.

Mr. Ross

At the end of 1967–68 the loan debt was £1,626 million—including inter-authority loans and transfers of £14 million—of which £598 million was owed to the Public Works Loan Board. The other main sources are the banks, the stock market, the specialist local authority money market and the public.
