HC Deb 03 February 1970 vol 795 cc78-9W
89. Mr. Rose

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he will seek to grant a subsidy to building societies to allow a special mortgage rate at a lower than normal level during a period limited to 10 years for married couples purchasing houses while under the age of 30 years.

Mr. Freeson

My right hon. Friend sympathises with the general objective of enabling young couples to buy their own homes, and has been glad to note that the number of new mortgagors under 30 has been increasing in recent years. He will gladly study any proposals my hon. Friend may care to put forward in detail, but he feels that such a measure might seem inequitable to those whose first opportunity of owner occupation came later in life.
