HC Deb 03 February 1970 vol 795 cc72-3W
71. Mr. Longden

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what is his estimate of the number of controlled tenancies which have been brought into the fair rent system by the Housing Act, 1969; and what are his proposals for dealing with the tenancies which are not brought into such system.

Mr. Denis Howell

The estimate which was made at the time of the passing of the Housing Act, 1969, was that 400,000 controlled dwellings would be likely to qualify for entry into the fair rent system. This is still the best estimate we can make, and it is too early to judge its accuracy. My right hon. Friend has no proposals for dealing with those controlled tenancies which do not qualify under the Act.
