HC Deb 03 February 1970 vol 795 c98W
Mr. Eadie

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what is the total manpower, male and female, employed as computer operators in Scotland; and what is the projected increase in employment, male and female, for the next five years.

Mr. Dell

The information is available in the following form only:

Numbers of operators on computers used for office work in January, 1969 in Scotland were:
Males 450
Females 200
Total 650
A broad estimate of the total number of such computer operators in January, 1974 is about 2,000. Separate forecasts for males and females are not available, but it is considered that the trend will probably be towards a higher proportion of male operators because of the increasing tendency towards shift working.
