HC Deb 18 December 1970 vol 808 c487W
Mr. Gordon Walker

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what further action the Government has taken on Resolution (70) 22 adopted on 5th June, 1970, by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and relating to the preservation and renovation of Venice.

Mr. Kershaw

As my right hon. Friend the Minister for Overseas Development told the hon. Members for Newcastle-upon-Tyne, East (Mr. Rhodes) and Plymouth, Devonport (Dame Joan Vickers) on 17th July, Her Majesty's Government have, in advance of the production by the Italian Government of their comprehensive plan for the protection of Venice, asked appropriate British institutions to consider if there was anything they could do to help.

In response, the Victoria and Albert Museum are sending a number of their conservation staff to work in Venice from time to time.—[Vol. 803, c. 284–5.]
