HC Deb 18 December 1970 vol 808 cc487-8W
Mr. Turton

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is his estimate of the gross contribution the United Kingdom would be called upon to make to the Community budget in 1977, on the assumption that that budget was then 4,500 million dollars.

Mr. Anthony Royle

On the basis of the proposals which we have tabled in Brussels this week and which my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster described to the House in his statement on 16th December, our gross contribution, on the assumption stated in the Question, would lie between £240 and £280 million.—[Vol. 808, c. 1354–6.]

Mr. Turton

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether, in view of Her Majesty's Government's decision to limit the maximum weight and length of goods vehicles below the maxima prevailing in the European Community, he will reserve this matter in his current negotiations.

Mr. Anthony Royle

Since the European Community has not agreed legislation governing the maximum weight and length of goods vehicles, the question of a reservation in the negotiations does not arise.
