HC Deb 18 December 1970 vol 808 c485W
Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the degree of implementation by the Government of the United Arab Republic of the terms of the Anglo-United Arab Republic Financial Agreement of 1959.

Mr. Kershaw

With very few exceptions, property due for release from sequestration under the Financial Agreement of 1959 has now been released. Problems remain over property which was resequestrated under further measures of the Government of the United Arab Republic in 1961 but in these cases too releases have been proceeding following the Exchange of Notes of 1967.

Her Majesty's Government are continuing to work for the release of the remaining property under sequestration. In many cases this can best be done by helping individual owners or their agents with particular problems which arise with the Sequestrator or other United Arab Republic authorities concerned but we have also impressed upon the Government of the United Arab Republic the importance we attach to the disposal of these outstanding cases in the interests of good relations between our countries.
