HC Deb 10 December 1970 vol 808 c170W
83. Mr. Fidler

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that in the London area a moving taxi is not regarded as plying for hire when its for hire sign is illuminated, but that this only applies if the cab is on a cab rank or stationary in the street; and if he will take steps to amend the law so that plying for hire includes a cruising taxi when its sign is so illuminated.

Mr. Sharples

My right hon. Friend is aware of the position but is not satisfied that an amendment to the law requiring a taxi cruising with its sign on to stop when hailed would be either enforceable or desirable.
