HC Deb 10 December 1970 vol 808 cc152-3W
40. Mr. Ronald Bell

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what communication he has received from the Construction Industry Training Board about its financial position; and whether he will make a statement.

66. Mr. Chichester-Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will make a statement on his discussions with the Chairman of the Construction Industry Training Board regarding its financial problems.

73. Mr. Willey

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he is yet in a position to make a statement about the finances of the Construction Industry Training Board.

Mr. Bryan

The Chairman of the Construction Industry Training Board has reported that the board is unable to raise from commercial sources the additional borrowing authorised to meet its present financial difficulties. He has asked whether the Government can assist the board, and I am at present considering the situation.—[Vol. 808, c. 94–5.]

45. Mrs. Fenner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will suspend activities of the Construction Industry Training Board pending his review of industrial training boards.

Mr. Bryan

My right hon. Friend has no power under the Industrial Training Act to suspend for a temporary period the activities of an industrial training board.

57. Mr. Cant

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will now authorise an inquiry into the structure and finances of the Construction Industry Training Board.

Mr. Bryan

The Construction Industry Training Board has already commissioned and received a report by independent consultants on its organisation and financial procedures.
