HC Deb 03 December 1970 vol 807 c439W
Mr. Jopling

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proposals he has to reduce the dangers of illegal drug taking.

Mr. Carlisle

I would refer my hon. Friend to the provisions of the Misuse of Drugs Bill now before Parliament.

Mr. Rees-Davies

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will consider legislation on drug addiction designed to impose treatment in medical centres instead of prison for addicts whilst retaining prison sentences for narcotic pushers; and whether he will make a statement on his general policy on addiction.

Mr. Sharples

The answer to the first part of the Question is "No".

As regards the second part of the Question, I would refer my hon. Friend to statements made in connection with the Misuse of Drugs Bill which is before the House.
