§ Mr. Martenasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the Government supports the idea of monetary union with the European Economic Community countries; and whether the Government is prepared to adopt any proposals agreed by the Six themselves.
§ Mr. HigginsHer Majesty's Government have welcomed the moves which the Community has already made towards closer economic and monetary integration and are ready to play their full part. The Six have not yet determined their own attitude to the specific proposals now before them in this field.
