Mr. Sillars

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) if, in any proposed value-

United Kingdom were to join the European Economic Community.

Following is the information:

added tax, he will ensure that it will not apply to very small businesses;

(2) if, in any proposed value-added tax, he will make normal farming activities an exempted item;

(3) if, in any proposed value-added tax, he will take steps to exempt food, except for those few items already subject to purchase tax.

All these matters are being considered in the current study of the reform of taxation.
