HC Deb 27 April 1970 vol 800 c209W
Mr. Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, if he will carry out research into the variations in the extent to which different general practitioners refer patients to hospital consultants or for diagnostic examinations, and with what results.

Dr. John Dunwoody:

A number of studies have been made of these variations. They are, however, only one aspect of the wider question of how to secure the best overall use of the resources of general practice and the hospital service; and this is being studied in several current research projects sponsored by my Department.
