asked the Minister of Technology what was the number of industrial development certificates issued in the South Ayrshire constituency in the years 1962 to 1969, inclusive, the number issued to date in 1970, and the estimate of jobs created by these approvals, for men and women.

Mr. Varley:

From 1st January, 1962, to 31st March, 1970, 29 industrial development certificates were issued in the Cumnock and Girvan employment exchange areas. They were estimated by the applicants to provide jobs for 1,300 males and 1,460 females. During the same period, 17 idcs were issued for the Ayr employment exchange area, part of which is in the South Ayrshire constituency. These were expected to provide jobs for 440 males and 530 females. Figures for individual years cannot be given in view of the risk of disclosing details of individual projects.
