§ Captain Kerbyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the total cost of translating, character-setting and printing the IR7 pamphlets in Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi and Bengali; and how many of these pamphlets have been printed and issued to Asian immigrants in the United Kingdom to date.
§ Mr. Taverne:About £900. 140,000 copies have been printed; the number issued is not known.
§ Captain Kerbyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why, in view of the fact that there are over one million Afro-Asian immigrants in the United Kingdom today, his IR7 pamphlet series does not include translations into Malay, Baluchi, and such African tribal dialects as KiSwahili, Hausa and Ibo.
§ Mr. Taverne:Because it is not thought that a wider translation is necessary.
§ Captain Kerbyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the amount of revenue that has accrued to the Exchequer as a direct result of the translations into Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi and Bengali of his IR7 pamphlet series, since their distribution to Asians resident in the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. Taverne:I am afraid that I cannot make such an estimate.
