HC Deb 20 April 1970 vol 800 c9W
68. Sir J. Eden

asked the Minister of Technology what percentage of the output capacity of the public electricity supply industry will be coal-, gas- or oil-fired or nuclear-powered in 1972 and 1975, respectively.

Mr. Alan Williams:

The following are the figures for 1975 based on the C.E.G.B.'s 1969 Capital Development Programme (adjusted to take account of conversions subsequently approved):

C.E.G.B. PLANNED MAXIMUM OUTPUT CAPACITY 1ST JANUARY, 1975 (a)
MW Percent.
Coal-fired 45,200 68½
Dual-fired (gas/coal) 400 ½
Oil-fired (b) 10,300 15½
Nuclear 7,600 11½
Other (c) 2,500 4

  1. (a) Corresponding actual figures for 1st January, 1970 were given in a reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Liverpool, West Derby, on 16th April: the 1972 distribution of capacity as between fuels will mainly depend on progress with commissioning new plant.
  2. (b) Including dual-fired (oil/coal)—2,000 MW.
  3. (c) Includes gas-turbines, pumped storage, hydro, etc.
