asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will seek to provide income tax allowances for workpeople who have had to hire or buy alternative forms of transport to get them to work as a result of the bus strike in Scotland.

No. The cost of getting to work is not an allowable expense for income tax purposes and we could not single out for a concession the expenses to which my hon. Friend refers.
