asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will initiate a probe into tax evasion similar in scope to that conducted by the National Assistance Board in 1965.

The detection of tax evasion is part of the normal duties of inspectors of taxes. The inquiries made by the National Assistance Board in 1965 were in relation to a particular problem and do not really provide a useful precedent here.
