HC Deb 13 April 1970 vol 799 c166W
76. Mr. Edward M. Taylor

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many income tax payers there were in October, 1964; how many there were on the most recent date for which figures are available; and if he will express the increase in the number as a weekly average for the relevant period.

Mr. Taverne

The estimated figures, counting married couples as one unit, for 1964–65 and 1969–70 are 18.5 million and 21.5 million respectively, an average weekly increase of about 11,500.
