§ Mr. Evelyn Kingasked the Minister of Transport how much is paid by the Post Office by way of vehicle licences in respect of its motor fleet; how much was paid prior to the reorganisation of the Post Office; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MurrayFrom 1961 annual payments were made equal, as nearly as possible, to the excise duty which would have been payable if Post Office vehicles had not been exempt from duty. The amount so paid for the last complete financial year before the reorganisation of the Post Office was some £3 million. There is no reason why the amount paid in excise duty since reorganisation should be materially different from the amount which would have been paid, but for reorganisation, in lieu of duty.
