HC Deb 06 April 1970 vol 799 c18W
Mr. David Howell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list the number of savings certificates at present held by the public, showing separately each issue of savings certificates and indicating the value of the principal and accrued interest for each issue so held.

Mr. Taverne

Savings certificate records are not kept in a form that would provide this information in precise terms. Estimated numbers and values as at 31st December, 1969, were as follows:—

of selective employment tax, specifying men, women, boys and girls, separately, and the rate of capital gains tax.

Mr. Taverne

These taxes were not in existence in 1964. The rates at September, 1969 were:—

Per cent.
C.T. 45
C.G.T. 30
S.E.T.
s. d.
Men 48 0
Women 24 0
Boys 24 0
Girls 16 0

I do not think it would be useful to calculate a corporation tax rate for 1964 on an equivalent yield basis, as a number of factors in the calculation have altered in the five years.
