Osbornasked the Minister of Transport what steps he is now taking to ensure that drivers bringing in motor vehicles, including passenger cars from abroad, are competent to drive and hold driving licences to prove this; and what steps is he now taking to ensure that the vehicles are roadworthy and adequately licensed.
§ Mr. MurrayIn common with other countries party to the United Nations Convention on Road Traffic, we recognise foreign domestic and international driving licences held by temporary visitors. Entitlement to hold these licences is a matter for the issuing authority.
Routine checks are carried out by the police and officials of the Department to ensure that vehicles and drivers comply 57W with our requirements, and such checks cover both British and foreign vehicles.
