HC Deb 11 November 1969 vol 791 cc55-6W
Mr. McCann

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware of the hardship caused by night working on motorways; and if he will issue an instruction that no work will take place between the hours of 12 midnight and 6 a.m.

Mr. Bob Brown

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which I gave today to my hon. Friend the Member for Heywood and Royton (Mr. Barnett).

Mr. McCann

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that the penalty clause on motorway construction is used as a reason for night working; and, in view of the risk to health caused by work done at night, if he will abolish the penalty clauses.

Mr. Bob Brown

Motorway contracts do not in practice contain penalty clauses.
